This year during the March Break, Ms. Brockest, Mr. DiGirolamo
and Mr. Paterson accompanied 18 senior students to Italy, with Temple and
Temple Tours. Students met at the
airport Thursday evening and got ready for their 9 hour flight to Rome, with a
one hour transfer flight to Venice. The
trip began in Venice, where students participated in a walking tour, a Murano glass
blowing demonstration, saw the Basilica
and had some time to enjoy the Piazza
San Marco. From Venice the group
headed to Florence with a quick stop in Pisa along the way. Students first sight in Florence was the
breathtaking Basilica of Saint Mary of the Flower - the Duomo, the main church of Florence where
they had evening mass. The following day students had a tour Santa Croce Church and Ill Duomo. In the afternoon the group went to visit a
leather goods maker and gold leaf specialist and the evening made their own
pizza for dinner. The following day
students toured the Galleria dell’Accademia
to view Michelangelo's masterpiece David.
They went to a gelato making workshop, toured Ponte Vecchio, the only
covered bridge in Florence after World War II and so much more!! Following Florence the group headed to Rome. The first night in Rome student saw the Trevi
Fountain and Spanish Steps. The
following morning students began what is known as the Roman marathon where they
toured the Vatican, Coliseum, l’Arco di Costantino, the Imperial Forum, Trajan Column and
Pantheon. After a very exhilarating but
exhausting day the students boarded the bus for their last day trip to Pompeii
to view a famous Roman City excavated from volcanic ash from 79AD, which is
still today being excavated. Below are some highlights from our trip.
